A spin in the spider, literally

On Sunday, deb and I were out in the spider doing some shopping. We were headed to Gander Mountain for yet more fishing gear, which out 22 towards the Pittsburgh Airport.

I took the Montour Run exit pretty fast. It's surprisingly tight considering the short entrance lane, but it wasn't enough to really worry me. The problem was a very bumpy transition from the asphalt of US22 to the concrete of the ramp. The bumps got the rear hopping, and combined with a bit of trail braking, the ass starting swinging around. With the gaurdrail looming, my instincts overrode any desire to heroically drive out of the spin, and I just stayed on the brakes and brought it to a screeching halt. A quick 3-pointer before we could get T-boned by another car on the ramp and we were on our way.

Surprisingly, Deb and I were both pretty calm throughout (well, at least she looked calm.) My pulse barely accelerated. It was fun more than anything.

It was the first time I spun a car (unintentionally) on dry pavement. My alfa friend is convinced it's the Kumho's (Ecsta 712s) fault (ignoring the fact that I went into that turn too hot.) I do like the Kumho MXs (noticably stickier) on my Verde, but I'll probably try something different the next time I by new shoes for my ride.

It's a bad sign when

You start thinking it would save time to write a script to disable user accounts (on multiple systems.) ahem.

I'm back… I think

I got out of the habit of regularly posting. For some reason the more things I had to post about, the less I wanted to actually post about them.

A brief summary to be expounded upon later:

It totally hit the fan at work… still not sure how things will shake out. Just in case, here's my resume

Vacation plans changed: spent some time on a farm, and hung out with friends and family. Very theraputic.

Rediscovered the joy of fishing. I loaded up on new gear. In case of unemployment, I'll at least have something to do. Need a(nother) boat… really need something to tow it.

More fooling with cars… but isn't that a given?

Oh, yeah: I'm a year older too.

Too Easy

I just installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on my machine. I downloaded the Network installer from MSDN (my employer is a subscriber) all 280 megs of it, but was reluctant to install it.

Well I finally worked up the courage to turn it loose this evening, and it was remarkably easy. It only took about 20 minutes, and seems to have installed without a hitch. Can't say I see much difference. I never used IE, Outlook (or any other MS Office crap) and I'm nearly always behind a firewall… so that might explain it.

Poo Fingers

We planted some shrubbery. We used some peat moss and composted manure to condition the soil. Despite several attempts at washing I still have poo smell on my hands. Note to self: next time use gloves.
