I thought the Germans were strict

Home again

It is still odd to call our place in Bourne End home, however I am
very happy to be back here. It has been an especially long two weeks
of business traveling and I look forward to a weekend of lazing about.

Feeds redirected

I redirected the old feed urls to the new wordpress feed.   Most RSS readers will just figure this out, and carry-on merrily.  However if you’d like to fix things manually, the new feed is: http://mark.denovich.com/?feed=rss2

Installed WordPress

My previous blog entries will be off line for a while. I need to export from the old system, manipulate them a bit, and finally import them into this blog.

Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

Shared hosting sucks

Textdrive (my shared-hosting company) kills my Typo process every few days causing regular blog outages. I finally gave up, and tried to export all my blog entries… Textdrive helpfully kills that before it completes because it's using too much processor time (the mysql interaction doesn't respond to the 'nice' command)

As soon as I get some time, I'm going to switch to some other hosted blog service… this is the worst of both worlds.

It's so late. Er, no it isn't

The sunset at 3:51pm here today… The days continue to get shorter until the 22nd but today is the earliest setting.

Charming Terraced Home

I think our apartment now fully qualifies as charming. In addition to being of brick & flint construction and being surrounded by verdant countryside, on Monday we had 3 pheasants in the front garden. One who seemed keen to see what was behind our partially opened front door.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

I've been suffering with insomnia since I got here. I first blamed all the tea, then the bed (bought a memory foam topper, even though we have a memory foam bed in transit.) Nothing seemed to save me from nights of tossing and turning, accomppanied by hot/cold-sweats.

Contrary to the conventional wisdom that British Telecom has notoriously bad/unreliable customer service, the Royal Mail delivered our internet access gear as promised. We plugged it in, and hazah! We had internet. The integrated WiFi/ADSL modem is a bit lame (can't change SSID or WEP key) but it was working a few momements after it was plugged in.

Interestingly, last night I had the best sleep since I've been here. I could have blissfully slumbered for another 3 hours if not for work. Clearly, I was suffering from a lack of WiFi at home.
