Need to order giant boxes of Lemon Heads
As first reported by Deb, we bought some new AV gear.
The set will be delivered Friday... we installed the home theater system last night. As with everything it was a pain in the ass. It took quite a while to route all the surround speaker cables under the floor and through the basement. I was really pleased when I discovered that the cables were about 6' too short. In a move that will make audiophiles wince, I spliced in some Cat-5 to give the additional length. Works great, so who cares.
The new sound system is sweet. The only problem is now I'm in multiple remote hell. Before the Tivo remote did all that we needed... volume control on the stereo was enabled through the TV's variable audio outs. But now that we have Dolby 6.1 yadda, yadda, the stock 2-channel outs won't cut it.
The folks at seem to have the universal remote situation covered. The problem is that good ones aren't cheap, and they are still lacking when compared with the native Tivo controller.
I need to make another run to the electronics store to pick up some misc cables and a few DVDs. We don't have much that makes use of the surround system... Blazing Saddles is awesome, but I don't think they bothered to digitally remaster the fart scene for surround.
