Kill Blog Spam
In the last few weeks Deb and I have been subjected to an increasing amount of blog spam. I can't imagine what is going through their heads...
"New business model: Insert lameass link to herbal viagra in a comment on a 5 month old journal entry, in a blog that sees about 100 distinct visitors per day."
Yeah, that'll work. Maybe they should stick to collecting underpants (link to google cache to avoid Fool.com registration.)
Using google got me thinking though... Maybe the plan is to improve their google ranking by self-promotion. All those links from respected websites (like mine: #1 hit for Mark's Blog) will artificially inflate their website's position in the 2.5 million webpages that relate to viagra. Looking around, it looks like other people are having similar problems in their Wikis. So far the Alfa Wiki has remained unspoiled.
So to the point.... I checked the Moveable Type website and found a link to MT-Blacklist a comment filtering/scanning plug-in to combat blog spam. Hooray! I plan to install it as soon as the bits are done cooking... the new 1.5 release should be done Monday.
