So nearly a month after getting our new TV/DVD/Home Theater setup, I finally figured out how to get our progressive scan DVD player to actually output in progressive mode. The first problem was I had no idea that it wasn't using progressive mode. A quick scan of the manual revealed that I had to enable the feature first, and use component outs. No problem. I did both. It wasn't until last night when I accidentally hit the info button that I saw it was still using interlaced output. Back to manual... there is a setup menu, and then there is yet another run-time setup menu. You need to enable progressive scan in the first menu, then actually turn it on in the second menu. WTF? What a retarded design. I can understand the desire to produce a DVD player that will work with all sets right out of the box, but it shouldn't be so hard to enable all the high-performance features. Hell, I shouldn't have to hunt down these features in the first place. How about a wizard to aid setup? A few simple tests and steps should result in the optimum set of features enabled.
