So I was helping my friend Andrew find a suitable used car this weekend. Driving out to Cheswick on route 28 we encountered very heavy traffic... traffic was bumper to bumper and moving at a crawl as far as the eye could see. Near the Blawnox exit, route 28 expands to 3 lanes. As the lane came into view, we could see that it was completely free from traffic. I turned to Andrew and said "Is there any reason I shouldn't be in that lane?" Not seeing anything I boldly crossed into the empty lane and sped past hundreds of cars for almost 2 miles. Each driver I passed seemed to have the same stupified look on their faces. However, it didn't take long for some to get the idea as I saw car after car peel out into the lane behind me. I couldn't believe that so many had been content to stay in traffic and ignore the completely open lane. A few miles up the road we found the cause of the traffic. A huge accident restricted 28 to one lane. It looked as though both vehicles had been struck by an meteor... they were completely incinerated.
