It would probably be a good thing if we could go more than a week without blowing a thousand dollars on something. _sigh_ During the Super Bowl, I opened the fridge and one of the door shelves gave way, unleashing an avalache of condiments. A new shelf would have proably been only $10, but I was sick of our crappy refrigerator. It's the kind of refrigerator you get when you are renting an apartment... the kind I've been living with for 13 years. We wanted a nice one, fit for a home... so we went shopping. After seeing hundreds of refrigerators, it was obvious that most are just variations on a few base models. Apparently most brands are nothing more than a name... with the actual refrigerator made by just 3 or 4 different companies. Still there were a dizzying arrary of choices. We liked the freezer on the bottom units, especially the nifty Kenmore Trio... But I really like the idea of ice and water in the door, and you can only find those in side by sides. After much debate we finally found a floor model Samnsung side by side for a good price that had a few nifty features. I knew it was going to be a bit wider which meant I had to remove a cabinet... but I forgot to measure how deep it was. I guessed it was 30", but this one was in fact almost 36" deep. Even taking the doors off, we barely got it in the house. With our narrow galley style kitchen the extra 6" makes for an imposing looking refrigerator. It's a good thing we're not a couple of fatties, as we'd have a hard time opening the doors while standing in front of it. The new fridge is nice.. it took all our stuff from the old one and still looks empty. It's extremely quiet too. Of course, now this means I need to go shopping for some new cabinets...
