Now that I had a way to easily upload photos to my gallery, the next logical step was to have the most recent photos automatically appear in the side column of my blog. What I thought would be the hard part, turned out to be pretty easy. I wrote a perl script that reads the files in the mobile album, sorts them by date, and outputs the necessary html for inclusion in my Moveable Type index. (I suck at perl, that's why I thought it might be hard.) The hard part turned out to be getting the output included in the index. I decided to use Server Side Includes, which should have only taken a small Apache configuration change to effect, but I wound up fucking around for 2 or 3 hours till I found the right place to put the appropriate directive. I wonder if there is some Apache doodad that can show you the end result of your configuration... I think a higher level directive was clobbering my lower level one, and it was less than obvious.
