It's been a while since I really listened to music. I'm a born bullshitter, so music competes with my desire/ability to talk. But here in Japan, I've got no one to talk to, so yesterday I tried listinging to some tunes, and I'm totally rockin' out. It's also a nice way to gain back some personal space since everything is so damn crowded, and so noisy. I've got some noise isolating 'phones and a gig or two of MP3s on my PocketPC nothing as tiny as the ones they sell here, but it gets the job done. Each song has a big change on my mood and attitude. My collection is heavily biased towards metal, and it's hard not to feel like a real badass walking through the station listening to some Motorhead, or old skool Metallica. The occassional NWA, Public Enemy tune has a similar effect. There I was in the Tenjin shopping district of Hakata/Fukuoka listening to Juvenille's _Back That Ass Up_ as I'm trying to decide which Obi to get to go with the Yukata I just picked up. I was imagining explaining the lyrics to a local... Which is the weird thing... I stumbled into a used record/CD store. A surprising amount of quality hip hop/rap was represented. I've also seen at least half a dozen girls with a huge marijuana leaf emblazoned on their shirts with "Legalize" written above it. A bunch of Che Guevara shirts too... do they have any idea what it means? Still haven't made it to the beach. The heat had me running for AC, so I decided to get some shopping done now.
